Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current development of public information infrastructure in eastern USA. It proposes discussing lessons learned from four case studies of public information infrastructure projects to gain a better understanding of the challenges and implications of open access for broadband services and to provide a foundation for evaluating the advisability of mandatory open access policies.

Design/methodology/approach

Four cases were selected for in‐depth study in the eastern area of the USA. Multiple data collection methods were used – in‐depth face‐to‐face and telephone interviews with people associated directly with the projects.

Findings

The study recommends appropriate policy measures that can promote open access.

Originality/value

The case studies shed light on how future public information infrastructures may evolve within the larger context of national and global information infrastructure.

Abstract

The weapon system of The Navy is the small quantity producing system on multiple kinds. It is consisted of various equipment and the subordinate parts of those which can repair the damaged part. The operating procedure concerning warship's repair parts managed under these systems is as follows. Firstly, if demand of repair parts occurs from warship which is the operating unit of weapon, then the Fleet(the repair & supply support battalion) is in charge of dealing with these requests. If certain request from warship is beyond the battalion's capability, it is delivered directly to the Logistic Command. In short, the repair and supply support system of repair parts can be described as the multi-level support system. The various theoretical researches on inventory management of Navy's repair parts and simulation study that reflects reality in detail have been carried out simultaneously. However, the majority of existing research has been conducted on aircraft and tank's repairable items, in that, the studies is woefully deficient in the area concerning Navy's inventory management. For that reason, this paper firstly constructs the model of consumable items that is frequently damaged reflecting characteristics of navy's repair parts inventory management using ARENA simulation. After that, this paper is trying to propose methodology to analyze optimal inventory level of each supply unit through OptQuest, the optimization program of ARENA simulation.

Abstract

The studies focusing on inbound logistics in the automobile industry have been limited because of the relatively small portion of logistics cost. But now it is recognized as one of the critical factors for efficient execution of supply chain management (SCM). The survey of suppliers in the automobile industry conducted in this study indicated significant relationships among logistics performance, logistics outsourcing, and performance evaluation level. This research is three-fold. First, current status of part supplier's logistics was analyzed by interviews with inbound logistics providers and suppliers. Second, management type of logistics was analyzed. There were three kinds of logistics -two kinds of logistics outsourcing and direct control by the supplier. Each type of logistics management showed differences about performance. Third, logistics performance evaluation and its relation with the actual logistics performance were presented. Comparable performance evaluation factors were selected, and it is shown that they had a correlation with actual performance.

Abstract

Purpose

Social commerce using social media has been on the rapid increase. Among various social commerce models, group-buying has become the mainstream. There is a paucity of research related to how customers perceive value in group-buying situations. This paper aims to examine and analyze various factors that influence perceived customer value in group-buying.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected using a survey on customers who had purchased a restaurant service deal on a group-buying site. A partial least squares technique was used to estimate the model.

Findings

Results show that perceived customer value affects customers’ group buying intentions and that all four antecedents of perceived value (low price, valence of experience, trust in social media and reputation of the group-buying site) have a significant influence. Implications and further research directions are discussed at the end of the paper.

Originality/value

This study provides valuable strategic implications for social commerce firms.

Abstract

There are many studies supporting that logistics service quality affects on customers satisfaction and these satisfied customers have a strong repurchase intention in consumer products. However, a few studies involving Industrial products examined these relationships. Therefore, the main purposes of this study are (1) to empirically examine logistics service factors influencing on the customers’ satisfaction and repurchase in industrial purchasing, (2) to clarify the differences of service factors between customers satisfaction and repurchase in industrial purchasing process, and (3) to analyze the influence of these factors on the customers’ satisfaction depending on the size of company. As a result of an analysis of survey data, this study found the followings. (1) the factors affect customer satisfaction and the factors affect repurchase intention are different from each other; 5 factors (timeliness, order quality, personnel intimacy, personnel quality, order release quantities) for customer satisfaction and 6 factors (timeliness, order period, personnel quality, order quality, information factor, order release quantities) for repurchase intention. (2) the relationship between order release quality factor and customer satisfaction was differ depending on the company size. The large companies showed a stronger relationship than the smaller company did. (3) the positive linear relationship between customer satisfaction and repurchase intention was identified also in industrial purchasing.

Abstract

The financial restructuring measures under the IMF programme since the financial crisis far exceeded those carried out during the last 10 years in their depth and coverage. Starting from the observation that the financial crisis of late 1991 occurred after the well publicised entry into the OECD, this paper focuses on the relationship between the liberalisation and opening‐up of the financial market and the unprecedented financial crisis in Korea. It deals with issues raised as the Korean financial regulatory system moved from a controlled system to a market oriented system, and it reviews the policy initiatives of financial regulation and liberation in the period between the early 1980s and late 1991. This paper shows the importance of a multi‐staged system of information production and monitoring of the economy in the transformation into a market‐oriented system, suggesting that this transformation can damage the economy if related policies do not enhance the power of financial supervision to monitor the moral hazard behaviour of financial institutions.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of an algorithm for realizing web crawlers that automatically collect dynamically generated webpages from the deep web.

Design/methodology/approach

This study proposes and develops an algorithm to collect web information as if the web crawler gathers static webpages by managing script commands as links. The proposed web crawler actually experiments with the algorithm by collecting deep webpages.

Findings

Among the findings of this study is that if the actual crawling process provides search results as script pages, the outcome only collects the first page. However, the proposed algorithm can collect deep webpages in this case.

Research limitations/implications

To use a script as a link, a human must first analyze the web document. This study uses the web browser object provided by Microsoft Visual Studio as a script launcher, so it cannot collect deep webpages if the web browser object cannot launch the script, or if the web document contains script errors.

Practical implications

The research results show deep webs are estimated to have 450 to 550 times more information than surface webpages, and it is difficult to collect web documents. However, this algorithm helps to enable deep web collection through script runs.

Originality/value

This study presents a new method to be utilized with script links instead of adopting previous keywords. The proposed algorithm is available as an ordinary URL. From the conducted experiment, analysis of scripts on individual websites is needed to employ them as links.
